The Terrain plugin for 3DS Max allows you to generate landscapes from real world elevation data in a couple of clicks. The plugin makes use of DEM data that is available freely on-line but instead of you having to locate the right DEM file for your needs, patching them together and importing the data manually our plugin allows you to directly set a latitude and longitude coordinate and the plugin will automatically locate the right data and import it into 3DS Max and generate a mesh to your desired level of detail. You are free to drag the location around and zoom in or out and the plugin will fetch any new data it needs and rebuild the mesh automatically. The data will be stored on your system so future alterations will not require data to be re downloaded. The elevation data is sampled at 90m intervals and also for the US you can select 30m interval data for even more accurate terrains.

The plugin allows you to color your mesh based on height with a user customizable color table. The sea level can be changed and you have the option to cap the mesh. At any time you can change the mesh density and you can select to use a given vertex budget or set the distance to use between vertices etc.
The Terrain plugin is available for Max 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 both 32 and 64 bit version. Please note you require an internet connection for this plugin to work as it streams the data it needs directly from the internet. Hello,I bought this plugin a couple of years before. Now i need this for a project but my license is not working anymore and their support ticket system, email and their forum messages remain unanswered, zero response. There are other customers also have this problem. I don't know what to do about this, is anyone have contact with this developer?
SweepEdge:With SweepEdge ,you can use a border(made up with edges that has 1 face) as an underlying path along which to extrude a cross-section .Paths can also contain splines or NURBS curves. The initial main purpose of SweepEdges is to create big amount of curbstones and sideways, then it was added many new features. Because it is designed for terrain modeling ,so the cross-section will always be up-right to avoid getting a twist result.
PCloudToMesh:Read 3D points data from a text file and use them to create a terrain surface. In this text file ,each point coordinate should be stored in a single line, and each component (x,y,z)is separated by "," or a blank. The typical format such as "1419.05,-45.945,288.424",first value is index, followed by x,y and z coordinate.
Another major feature of the plugin is the ability to use Google Earth to generate textures for your terrains (you should have Google Earth Pro if you plan on using the images for commercial use). You can tell the plugin the resolution of the texture you want to apply to your terrain mesh and it will automatically produce the texture for you.
The Terrain plugin is available for Max 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 both 32 and 64 bit version. Please note you require an internet connection for this plugin to work as it streams the data it needs directly from the internet. This release updates the data source used. Until now the Terrain plugin accessed data from the USGS website, but this was recently removed. A new data source is now being used which has the added advantage of allowing users to download high-resolution maps from many more locations, formerly the higher levels of detail were only available for locations in the US.
Unfortunately my workstation is not allowed to be connected to the internet, so Skype is not possible. I am allowed to connect for activation/deactivation, but if the plugin needs a fulltime connection, it's sadly not possible.
We encourage you to share the download link to the Datasmith Exporter plugins with any number of people, both inside and outside of your organization. Please note, however, that you are not permitted to distribute the Datasmith Exporter plugins themselves.
Epic releases a new version of the Unreal Datasmith Exporter plugin for 3ds Max with every new release of Unreal Engine. If you switch to a different version of Unreal Engine, make sure you download and install the matching version of the plugin.
World Machine was instrumental in creating the terrain for our Supersonic Sled demo. We needed a very large landscape and wanted something natural-looking but with enough control that we could place canyons and hills exactly where needed. World Machine handled all of that beautifully.
World machine gives us the power to create very realistic terrains in a short amount of time. ... Its erosion filters are the best I have seen but also give a lot of control over the final look. i would recommend this to any development studio that needs very realistic terrains, quickly!
World Machine works well with our proprietary terrain editor in that we can not only create height maps, but alphas for our terrain paint layers as well. This saves a bundle of time and with results that look more detailed and professional.
Unlike traditional brush-based terrain editors, World Machine uses a procedural approach. Shape the terrain using basic building blocks such as fractals... then hit them with simulations of nature to create realistic features.
Autodesk 3ds Max, formerly 3D Studio and 3D Studio Max, is a professional 3D computer graphics program for making 3D animations, models, games and images. It is developed and produced by Autodesk Media and Entertainment.[3] It has modeling capabilities and a flexible plugin architecture and must be used on the Microsoft Windows platform. It is frequently used by video game developers, many TV commercial studios, and architectural visualization studios. It is also used for movie effects and movie pre-visualization. 3ds Max features shaders (such as ambient occlusion and subsurface scattering), dynamic simulation, particle systems, radiosity, normal map creation and rendering, global illumination, a customizable user interface, and its own scripting language.[4]
Surface tool was originally a 3rd party plugin, but Kinetix acquired and included this feature since version 3.0.[citation needed] The surface tool is for creating common 3ds Max splines, and then applying a modifier called "surface." This modifier makes a surface from every three or four vertices in a grid. It is often seen as an alternative to "mesh" or "nurbs" modeling, as it enables a user to interpolate curved sections with straight geometry (for example a hole through a box shape). Although the surface tool is a useful way to generate parametrically accurate geometry, it lacks the "surface properties" found in the similar Edit Patch modifier, which enables a user to maintain the original parametric geometry whilst being able to adjust "smoothing groups" between faces.[citation needed]
A free tool for generating procedural terrains or editing real-world elevation dataFirst released publicly in 2012, TerreSculptor enables users to generate procedural terrains or edit existing heightmap data, then export the results to DCC tools or game engines in a range of common file formats.
Users can generate terrains based on a range of procedural noise types, including Perlin noise, adjusting parameters via sliders or numeric inputs, with the results displayed via a real-time 3D preview.
Visualise terrains directly or export them to other DCC tools or game enginesTerrains can be visualised directly inside TerreSculptor, as shown in the video above, by setting terrain colours and assigning skydome environments via a simple real-time workflow.

Maproom helps you build great maps in a fraction of the time. Maproom downloads the data you need: satellite imagery, digital terrains, building models, building outlines and roads and combines it into a single map. No more messing around with screengrabbed satellite images and trying to match them up with other data. With Maproom making the map you need really is that easy. 2ff7e9595c
