In adults, smoking is the major factor in accelerating the development of COPD. Although the natural history of AATD varies, depending in part on what has brought the individual to medical attention (e.g., lung symptoms, liver symptoms, asymptomatic relative of an affected individual), the onset of respiratory disease in smokers with AATD is characteristically between ages 40 and 50 years [Tanash et al 2008]. Nonsmokers may have a normal life span, but can also develop lung and/or liver disease.
Not only the first classic hip-hop album, but a sharp breaking point from the buoyant post-disco rhythms and future-shocked electro that dominated the genre's first five years on record. The Hollis, Queens crew did nothing short of reinvent the still-new style in their own image: hard, raw, in your face and catchy enough to challenge anything else in pop. The rap-rock fusion "Rock Box" stands as a foundationally transformative moment for American culture itself, while the earth-shaking one-two punch of "Sucker MCs" and "It's Like That" (which had been released together in a landmark 1983 single) segued from Herculean MC grandstanding to complex social realism. The album is minimal and stark, but still feels like an audacious good time.
TOP VA - Those Classic Golden Years (40 CD-Box) - 2008
The box includes all of The Seasons' and Valli's solo albums, released on the Vee Jay, Philips, Motown, Private Stock, Warner Bros., MCA, Curb and Rhino labels between 1962 and 2017. Mono and stereo mixes have been preserved - including the first-ever mono release of the 1969 cult classic The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette (available on CD and vinyl) - along with single sides, demos, alternate mixes and other rarities. A few of the discs are completely unreleased, including a group of long-coveted mid-'70s Seasons sessions for Motown Records, a lost late '70s disco album and three live sets recorded between 1972 and 1974. Three new compilations of rarities, unreleased tracks and ephemera are also included. (There's even Jersey Babys, a 2008 collection of recordings of Seasons material for young listeners, ostensibly inspired by the runaway success of musical Jersey Boys.)
In addition to all the audio content (all in CD-sized replicas of the original album sleeves), packaging includes a 144-page hardback book featuring liner notes and biographical information by Four Seasons authority Paul Sexton. Another book offers new interviews with key group participants by Ken Sharp, and contributions by famous fans including Brian Wilson, Barry Gibb and Billy Joel - all no doubt inspired by the quartet's harmonic sounds. A third book offers singles and EP art along with chart placements, and the aforementioned Genuine Imitation Life Gazette vinyl features the fully-recreated triple gatefold sleeve of its original issue. Valli (who still tours with the Seasons to this day) and Gaudio (who wrote many of those classic songs) have given this set their full blessing, making this the ultimate official word on Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. 2ff7e9595c
